Pete
Gallagher was 51 when he left teaching. He moved to New South Wales,
Australia in July
2003 for a 1 year part-time teaching post in a private college in
Vthe capital.
The teaching job did not work out and Pete applied for scores of jobs,
without even being invited for interview.
The only interview Pete had was for a security company, maintaining
ATMs. This interview was unsuccessful.
Six weeks after the interview Pete's phone rang and he was offered the
job, starting the next day with a company van and mobile phone thrown
in.
Initially the job involved driving 1000 miles a week, 60-70 hours a
week
After 6 months and with some job security Pete made a few waves, joined
the union and was given fewer hours and a higher rate of pay.
He is still in the same job 4 years on. |
Geoff
M was a physics teacher in an 11-18 school in Wigan. He took early
retirement at age 55 in August 2005. Geoff now works from home building
websites for local businesses.
