There
are many opportunities to switch to part-time teaching.
In many countries, including England this is a right. Your employer
usually
has to accommodate your request to switch from full to part-time
employment.
There are various job-sharing schemes that work with varying degrees of
success. A lot will depend on how well the two job-sharing teachers get
along.
Working 2 or 3 days a week particularly suits parents with young
children. Many women choose this option.

Switching
to part-time teaching is also worth considering if you are
thinking of retiring in a few years. It provides a more gradual
transition to the outside world.
There
are professional disadvantages to switching to a part-time teaching
timetable;
- You will probably not be given
the full
range of classes. You are unlikely to be given the most able groups.
- Staff meetings and training days
may
fall on your day off but pressure will be exerted to make you attend.
